Carpe Diem and Yeshua-Do Seminar in Poland "When your opponent comes, greet him at once. If he withdraws, immediately send him on his way.
When there is opposition, harmonize with it on the spot. Utilize all principles to achieve harmonization. There is nothing in the universe that cannot be harmonized. Immediately distinguish between truth and falsehood. Know how to discern the hidden. Small enters the tiniest particle. Adjust to the vagaries of life and death. Adapt to ceaseless change. Remain unshaken regardless of the circumstances”. - MINAMOTO NO YOSHIMITSU (11th century), Founder of Daito-Ryu Aiki-Jutsu May is my favourite month of the year. Springs reminds me always about necessity of keeping flexibility and joy in everything we are going to do. For me it is also a time to “seize the moment of the day” (carpe diem). Again I would recommend to all students to go outside to practice and to live your life in fullness! We all must learn to live in the present, not in the future or the past. This reminds me the words of great saints: “Our God is always now, do not look into past or future”, as He himself said – “I AM!”, (Ex.3.14; John 8.58). So life must be seized at the very moment. By living in the present you are in full contact with yourself, then with God, and your environment. Thus, your energy and potential is not dissipated and is always available. In the present there are no regrets as there are in the past; or maybe by thinking of the uncertain future you dilute the present. The time to live is now! As long as you remain mindful of the moment and exactly what you are doing at that particular moment and nothing else, you are in harmony with yourself and with what you are doing at the fullest – and that means you’re alive. One of the reasons I enjoy training in martial arts and particularly Iai-jutsu is because it demands my total concentration of the mind and body and spirit; here there is no place for inattentiveness or mistake. And this leads to realization that everything I am doing during days activities must receive my focus on the moment.
